| Placing a notice into a local or national
newspaper is the most traditional way of informing people of the date
and time of a funeral, as well as giving family, friends and acquaintances
the chance to say how they feel about losing someone special to them.
In general a newspaper will not accept a main notice without first
confirming the funeral details, however, in most case a family will
be quite happy to entrust the placing of the notice to their chosen
Funeral Director. An obituary, or notice of death, can include whatever information a family wishes to give, but ordinarily would include the date, time and location of a funeral service. Verses of poetry, quotes and personal thoughts can be added as can the names of the close family members. There is no set pattern for how a notice has to be written but we can advise you on the best layout for the main funeral announcement and how to word any private notices if you are not sure. Sometimes the best approach is to write what you feel and if you don’t think it sounds quite right we can discuss how to alter it without losing the sentiment.
